Buying guide
Deck size vs. your yard
A common rule of thumb: about 42 in for up to 1–1.5 acres, 48–54 in for 1–3 acres, and 60 in or more for bigger open lots. Measure your gates and shed door first; deck width plus the discharge chute often exceeds 60 in.
Stamped vs. fabricated decks
Fabricated decks are welded from flat steel plate. The gauge number runs backwards: 10-gauge is thicker than 11-gauge. A fabricated deck is usually more dent-resistant than a stamped one.
Slopes and safety
Zero-turn mowers steer with the rear wheels and can lose traction on slopes. Read each operator's manual for the maximum slope rating, and consider a ROPS-equipped (rollover protection) model if you have hills.
When to buy
Search interest for zero-turn mowers peaks in spring (Google Trends, 2021–2025, US). Dealers often discount outgoing model years in late summer and fall.

FAQ
Is a zero-turn mower worth it for one acre?
It can cut mowing time compared with a push or lawn tractor. Whether it's worth thousands of dollars depends on your budget, terrain and how often you mow. A battery model like the EGO Z6 is rated for up to 1.5 acres per charge.
Can you buy a zero-turn mower online?
Yes. Some are sold by online retailers and ship by freight, while many are sold through local dealers who handle setup and warranty service. Check the delivery terms and who services the warranty before buying.
Why don't you show prices?
Prices change often. We link to retailers so you can see the current price. Any list price shown is the manufacturer's, with the date we checked it.
